When you profit from any form of mobile catering, you are obliged to take certain steps to protect the public from the risk of injury or death.
This is, of course, also important for your own safety. If you fail to take action, your business could be closed down and you could find yourself in court. The effect on you and your loved ones could be disastrous.
The Nationwide Caterers Association (NCASS) says several gas explosions have occurred over the last few years on both gazebo and trailer catering set-ups. These accidents have resulted in people suffering injuries and property being damaged.
It does not matter what area of mobile catering you specialise in, you MUST ensure that you are operating safely and legally.
To do this you need to take on board two vital points:
Your certificate would be invalid if the engineer who conducts the tests does not have the right credentials. The government has tightened up on this area in recent years, with local authorities and event organisers increasingly aware of the requirements.
If you have ever been offered certification without thorough testing having taken place, be very concerned. A ‘visual only check’ is the sign of a cowboy issuing certification that is not worth the paper it is written on.
The good news is you can sleep at night because help is at hand. Jamie Bell, founder of JB Caravan and Trailer Services, is a fully qualified engineer with an enviable background in engineering. He is also on the Gas Safe register after completing weeks of vigorous training and assessment. It is the highest qualification he could attain in the mobile catering sector.
The Gas Safety Register is the only official registration body for businesses and engineers in the UK, Isle of Man and Guernsey.
Jamie was assessed both at the Gas Safe Training Centre and at his place of work. Due to the risks involved, the procedure has to be thorough.
The level of his qualifications in liquid petroleum gas and natural gas means that he would be able to conduct assessments and repairs in a professional kitchen.
However, mobile catering is his chosen specialist field which is excellent news for anyone selling food and/or hot drinks from vans, trailers, carts or stands – or even in a gazebo. He is qualified to service and repair all your appliances and issue the necessary certification.
If you live within 30 miles of Burntwood in Staffordshire, your worries are over. Jamie will not only come out to you at your convenience – you will find his prices also bring a sense of relief.
One word of caution: because of Jamie’s expertise and competitive rates, his services are always in demand. It is important, therefore, to book well in advance.
